Ruth has lived in numerous places across Canada, in Ontario and in British Columbia on the west coast. She also spent a year studying abroad in Scotland. Most of her summers she has spent in the beautiful Lake District of Muskoka on Lake Rosseau, north of Toronto. She has travelled extensively, always painting little vignettes of memorable scenes as her personal postcard memories.
Much of her inspiration comes from the beauty around her. Recently, water has been a special focus since she now resides on lakes, ponds and the ocean. Ruth’s paintings are in the impressionistic realism style. Always in awe of God’s creation, light and shadows, colors and skies, are especially attractive to her.
While travelling in Rwanda with World Relief, on a mission trip, she met many fascinating women who were all touched by the Genocide. She painted a series of these vulnerable women as they celebrated their new lives. This series was donated to True Vineyard Ministries & World Relief who published and sold them to help support these widows.
For most of her art life she has been a watercolorist with some work in mixed media. Oils became a major part of her repertoire after moving to Florida in 2013.
She has studied with many fine artists and instructors at the Silvermine Guild Arts Center in Connecticut, such as Hannah Ferenbach, David Dunlop, Dmitri Wright and Judy Stach. In Canada she also studied with a large number of artists both at the Manse Gallery and The Haliburton School of the Arts.
Ruth has shown her work in Muskoka, Connecticut and Vero Beach. Her art is in many private collections across the United States and Canada. She has been featured in the Ridgefield Press and the Wilton Press. She is a member of AIS and has also been a member of the Vero Beach Art Museum, Plein Air Florida, and Vero Beach Art Club. She is a part of the Art Community and Club of Orchid Island.
